The first samples of First Flush 2012 have reached us. They are rather promising even though weather conditions have not been as favourable. Rainfall was far below what was needed to ensure a lush growth of tea leaves. Accordingly the crop is expected to be 40% behind last year's yield. Do you have to worry about getting any Flush at all this year? Naturally the harvest of First Flush and Second Flush is limited, but we've placed our orders with our longterm producers in time. Especially in those times you can profit from our good connections to the region of Darjeeling - since this is the district we exclusively work with since over 25 years...

The harvest of this year's First Flush will probably be rather short in volume. The harvest started well even though it was too dry for the season. Then yesterday Darjeeling was hit by hail storms... We will keep you informed and update you as soon as we receive news from Darjeeling!

Our tea is inspiring! This piece of art was sent from one of our
customers in Hamburg - recycling at its best.
Thank you very much!

Some labels of our First Flush erroneously depict a too low EGCG content... that we unfortunately just noticed after printing the labels. The value of EGCG in mg/g has to be multiplied with 100! However, the declaration in percentage is correct.
As soon as we receive the corrected data by the laboratory we will include them in our traceability data base.

What makes this book so special is that it was published in Bengali language in 1880. It was the first time that an author of Indian origin undertook the task to write a book on this region.
On almost 100 pages the reader learns about local tribes, flora, fauna and of course also about the prospering tea industry.
Completed with 25 historical photos this book was 2009 first published in English in 2009 at Pagoda Tree Press.

Teebushes can produce tea leaves for about 90 years. However, a sustainable yield can only be expected after approx. 5 years, so one has to provide newbushes in just time. India's Tea Board encourages replanting efforts and the North of India is ahead with an area of replanting of ca. 2%.

On June 5th was World Environment Day - it was also celebrated at the tea garden Phoobsering in Darjeeling. "Plant a tree, plant a hope" was the motto of the day that was planned within our project S.E.R.V.E. 160 participants (school children, volunters, workers from tea plantations and staff of WWF) planted 5.000 tree saplings!

Concerned customers as well as we ourselves ask if Darjeeling tea is in danger of getting contaminated by radioactivity. Even though at this point one can only speculate on the effects of the Japanese nuclear catastrophy, for Darjeeling there seems to be an all-clear. Darjeeling is situated in the norheast of India, sheltered by the Himalayas and 5.000 km away from Japan.
As always we will analyse our teas for residues of pesticides. Furthermore for the harvest of 2011 we will spot-check samples for radioactive substances. Of course we will share the results with you. You will find them on our internet site under "Traceability".
